Clapton At The Budokan: Night Two
Published // 15.Apr.16

Night two of Eric Clapton's five show run at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan was another solid show. The set list was unchanged from night one - a mix of blues, Eric's worldwide hits, back catalog gems sprinkled with songs from his forthcoming album, I Still Do.

With no guest artist sitting in, it was all about Eric and his band. In the programme for the concerts, Eric wrote that he's still experimenting with music. "I've invited a friend from the USA to join us, he plays all kinds of instruments and is really exciting to listen to. His name is Dirk Powell and I know he will bring another dimension to the music! Everyone else is coming from the UK and you will already know all of them I'm sure! Andy Fairweather Low, Dave Bronze, Henry Spinetti, Chris Stainton, Paul Carrack and of course, the lovely girls; Michelle John and Sharon White."

One long-time fan told WE! that "the acoustic part was brilliant" and "Dirk Powell's contributions on accordion, mandolin, guitar and fiddle throughout the show were a fantastic addition giving familiar songs a new edge."

Like night one, "Gin House" with vocals by Andy Fairweather Low and solo by EC, was truly outstanding, which is the case whenever they perform it. In Andy's repetoire since his Amen Corner days, it first appeared in EC's set 9 November 1999 at the Budokan. Other favorites from this performance were "Crossroads" - with the intro getting a particular nod from fans - "I Shot The Sheriff" and "Little Queen of Spades."

Eric, the band and crew have 3 shows left at the Budokan on 16, 18 and 19 April. These are Eric's only concerts in 2016.
